Indian Wedding Reception at TPC Southwind May 1, 2012

It was a busy wedding weekend for Mahaffey! We provided a 66 ft x 166 ft tent for an Indian wedding reception of 450 guests at TPC Southwind this past Saturday.

The tent was dressed a variety of Mahaffey accessories including solid white sidewalls, a beautiful white ceiling liner, five 28-light iron chandeliers, silver canister lights, wood flooring, carpet, two stages, a white dance floor, white leather tufted bars, banquet tables, cocktail tables, mahogany chiavari chairs, ivory chair pads, and silver chargers. 12 upright fans were also used to generate air flow and half of the sidewalls on one side of the tent remained open to provide more light and an airy feel. Take a look at the finished product!

The color scheme for the wedding reception was stunning. The tables were decorated using acid green, peacock blue, and dark purple table linens. We did not provide the linens, but we did provide the silver chargers at each place setting, which were accented with teal blue napkins. White satin sashes were draped over our mahogany chiavari chairs for a soft, romantic touch.

We thoroughly enjoyed working Le Reve Creations, a full service event design & decor company out of Richmond, VA, to make this wedding huge success!

Spring Creek Ranch Wedding Reception April 23, 2012

This past Saturday was a busy one for Mahaffey Tent & Party Rentals, and we’re excited to share what we were up to!

We provided two tents and the tent accessories for a wedding reception at Spring Creek Ranch in Collierville, TN. Spring Creek Ranch contacted us last fall needing to double their capacity space to accommodate a 580+ guest wedding reception, the largest they’ve ever done.

We worked quickly to develop a solution, which was adding two tents as an extension off the main golf house. We built scaffolding to match the height of the outdoor patio area outside the golf house and laid Bil-Jax on top of the scaffolding to create the floor surface. Two twin-tube tents were then installed side by side. The largest tent measured 40 ft x 75 ft while the other measured 40 ft x 45 ft.

Finishing touches on the tents included a gorgeous ceiling liner, three wrought iron chandeliers, carpet, wood dance floor, staging, canister lights, railing, banquet tables, cocktail tables, silver chiavari chairs, white chair pads, as well as steel and ivory pintuck linens and silver satin sashes.

This event was quite an undertaking and it definitely presented its set of challenges, the biggest one being the scaffolding since it was built on various ground levels. Our crew overcame the challenges and everything turned out great. We thoroughly enjoyed working with Spring Creek Ranch and all the other vendors to make this wedding a huge success.

Here are some of the photos we captured just hours before the event! Enjoy!

Spirits with the Spirits at Elmwood Cemetery October 14, 2011

Elmwood Cemetery has been keeping Memphis at rest since 1852, but last night their residents rose to the occasion of Spirits with the Spirits! It was a great night full of frightening fun and spooky events all surrounded by flickering lights and strange sights.

Mahaffey provided the final arrangements for the event, which included the tent, tables, chairs, linens (Black and White Venice & Aubergine), uplights with colored gels and lounge cubes with black spandex covers. The lighting provided was perfectly dimmed and helped set the tone for the night.

Upon arrival, everyone received a flashlight to help them navigate the cemetery and spot the historic tombs. Attendees were also able to walk through the dimly lit Lord’s Chapel and  listen to Tony Thomas playing piano.

Two old black and white movies—Young Frankenstein and Dracula–were shown during the event. Audio and video were provided by AreaOne Ministries. They projected Young Frankenstein on the side of an old building in the cemetery, and Dracula was shown on the inside wall of the hospitality tent.

Tout le Monde and Hank & Nora, a bluegrass and folk band, played a variety of live songs in the graveyard and a fortune teller set up in a makeshift room created with Mahaffey’s pipe and drape was telling fortunes and predicting futures!

Mahaffey’s lounge cubes and bistro tables were set up inside the tent for attendees to socialize and mingle while sipping on Halloween themed cocktails and munching on pass hors d’oeuvres.

Thanks to our very own Shonna Springer, who also happens to be a fabulous photographer, for capturing these great shots at the event! Shonna will also be serving as the resident historian at Elmwood Cemetery for the coming year. For more information on Elmwood Cemetery, visit there web page or call them at 901.774.3212.

A Southern Kind of Wedding Rich in Tradition February 4, 2011

Once the “party after the party” commenced, preparations for the wedding reception began. The bride’s family rented out an old warehouse, now frequently used as an event venue, and we transformed it into a southern bride’s dream, complete with both modern and traditional elements.

Mahaffey set up three tents: one used as a covered entryway for cars to load and unload guests, another as a coat check area, and the last to enclose the front of the warehouse. We created a makeshift bridge over the curb going into the warehouse, as well as a 20′ gutter system from the entryway tent to the front enclosure.

Elegant crush linens paired with silver chiavari chairs and bar stools gave this venue the upscale vibe the bride was going for. The exquisite floral and votive centerpieces added to the modern look.

Here is another view of the reception layout…what a great idea the planner had to set up the open bar in the middle! Easy access to booze no matter where you were seated! Same with the food tables.

Because they were so elegantly decorated, the bar and food areas fit in well with the modern/nature theme.

Absolutely stunning cake display!

The bride’s father is involved with the New Orleans Saints, so of course the game had to be on during the reception…

Need a unique idea for a drink to serve? A friend of the family owns a vineyard in Napa Valley, and they had a few cases of red wine blended and bottled especially for the happy couple. Talk about a nice gift!

Old Hollywood Glam at the VESTA Home Show! August 23, 2010

This summer we had the opportunity to design the Memphis Area Home Builder’s Association’s VESTA Designer Home Show Preview Party! We had a great time working with this organization and we were very pleased with how everything came together. We loved transforming the Germantown Performing Arts Center into a swanky Hollywood cocktail party!

We pipe-and-draped the entire front lobby to transform it into an all-white affair. We used spandex linens on the bars and created white leather lounge areas with shag rugs. Check out Marilyn hanging out in between the two bars! Light boxes glowing a faint blue and hundreds of crystal details brought in the luxe opulence of old Hollywood.

Check out the room after dark! We had two fabulous feather and spandex palm trees to frame the room with. We used feathers and crystals in the centerpieces and the blue glowing light boxes were the only color in the room.

We love using feathers as centerpieces!  This is just another angle of the lobby.

The actual dinner took place on the GPAC Stage! We pipe-and-draped the halls to lead the guests from the all-white lobby to the stage for dinner. With the help of linens, lighting and centerpieces we created a black and red look. We used red rose balls elevated on silver candelabras for dramatically tall centerpieces on some tables, and extravagant black feather plumes in vases on others. Diners were entertained with live piano music from the black grand piano on stage with them!

This is a food station in the middle of the stage. Check out the tall red rose ball up close! Love the black, silver and red look on this stage.

We always alternate table looks. The red rose balls on the black linens, and the black vases and feather plumes on the red ones! Feathers are a glamorous detail you can use over and over again. They add drama, height and they wilt like flowers do.

Summer Glow in the Garden! June 28, 2010

We recently had the pleasure of designing a chic outdoor wedding at The Dixon. As much as we LOVE pink (as documented in my past two blog posts), we were excited to work with a client who wanted to mix it up and use orange, brown, green, champagne and copper. The end result was a beautiful glowing wedding in the heart of the Dixon Gardens. Check out the pictures, snapped by Annabella of Asian Bees Photography!

The centerpieces inside varied from low, sprawling clusters of bouquets and candles on clean, champagne satin linens…
… to intricate, twisted branches reaching towards the ceiling. The branches extend from gorgeous flower wreaths saturated with color. Karin Woodward with Haute Horticulture never ceases to amaze us with her gorgeous floral designs. Check out the orchids winding through the vase! For this alternate table look we added a sheer linen overlay over the classic champagne satin we used on the other look. We had to special order this overlay from Mosaic. The gold chivari chairs set off the elegant feel of the room!
Karin awes again with her creative orchid bubbles floating among her branchy outdoor arrangements. Love!
Here is the arrangement from a distance. Romantically dramatic with the height, yet organically quaint with the moss covered pot!
A view of the outdoor cigar lounge. Outside we traded the elegant champagne linens and gold chairs for brilliant pops of orange and mahogany brown chairs. I love how the orange looks in contrast to the beautiful green trees in the backdrop.
Another luxurious, hand-rolled cigar bar!
Little details in the catering display. These unique upside-down cups of petals elevate the glass platform for the food display. CFY provided their couture catering, fabulous as always!
Three romantic brass chandeliers hung down the center of the clear-top tent ceiling. The orange fabric swagging draws the eye skyward and creates a lavish frame for the dance floor.
Here is a closeup! Again, love the orange against the trees!
The whole view of the tent. The band, Party Planet, rocked the house and got the guests dancing in spite  of the Memphis June heat.
A cocktail table outside with a sneak peek of the orange and white lounge area.
The orange and white lounge area provided a swanky and comfortable place for guests to chill out by the dance floor. LOVE this leather furniture from Mahaffey Tent and Party Rentals!
Unexpected and fabulous centerpieces for the long tables in the tent. The contrast of the bright flowers and cool moss mirrors the overall scene of the orange decor against the green trees.
My ABSOLUTE favorite detail- the hand-strung flower chandelier by Haute Horticulture! This hung over the dance floor and was a favorite of the guests.
Here is a closeup! Absolutely beautiful work by the florist.
Thanks for reading! As always, we hope you are inspired by our designs. This event was a blast and we are so lucky to have wonderful clients who let us play!
