Did You Know: Project Green Fork Edition

Mahaffey is excited to partner with Fuel Cafe this weekend for a wedding at the Metal Museum!
ImageFuel Cafe, located in Midtown, is one of many restaurants in Memphis that are Project Green Fork certified. Founded in 2008, Project Green Fork was established to reduce environmental impact, with an emphasis on supporting homegrown restaurants.

Here are the six things that it takes to be Project Green Fork certified:

1. All disposable products must be compostable, biodegradable, recyclable, or made from recycled content.

2. All items that can be recycled must be recycled (as recognized by Project Green Fork).

3. With the help of Project Green Fork, restaurants will establish a composting system for pre-consumed fruit, vegetable, coffee grounds, eggshell scraps, and other compostable waste.

4. The use of toxic cleaners is discouraged and, whenever possible, must be replaced with plant-based and/or biodegradable cleaners.

5. Establishments must complete an energy audit and attempt to reduce water and energy waste.

6. All kitchens, front of houses, and outside areas should be clean and free of debris.

Check this out to find any Project Green Fork restaurants in your neighborhood.

And to check out Fuel Cafe’s delicious menu, go see them on Madison Avenue or track down their food truck for Fuel on the go! Follow them on twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to keep up with where they are in Memphis.

Food Truck Fridays at Dixon Gallery & Gardens

Food trucks have become quite popular here in Memphis. They are a staple of the Memphis Farmer’s Market, and you see them sporadically at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shelby Farms Park and several other hot spots around our fabulous city.

One of our favorite sitings, and a recent addition, has got to be Food Truck Fridays at Dixon Gallery & Gardens. This spectacular event, held in the heart of East Memphis, was only supposed to run from the end of May through June. But it was so successful that the Gallery decided to keep it running until October. We couldn’t be happier!

A different truck is represented each week, including Fuel Cafe, Rock ‘N’ Dough, MarksGrill and many more. The event takes place every Friday until October 25 from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Hope to see you soon at one of our fave destinations in East Memphis!

Tuesday Trends: Food Trucks

This new trend has become one of our absolute favorites. Who would have thought that food trucks would be the new thing for 2013. Mahaffey has fallen in love with the idea of serving hors d’oeuvres, entrees and late night munchies right out of a van, taking catering to a whole new level!

The possibilities for your event are endless…you could have the food truck serve entire meals, or surprise your guests with a late night service, driving in and serving coffee and donuts (possibly even inside your venue during colder months). Two local food trucks that we recommend are Graze Food Truck and Fuel Food Truck. Neither will disappoint in service or food!

Graze Food Truck is the cutest moving vehicle we’ve ever seen, and could add that perfect touch to your spring or summer event! Graze can provide everything from classic Southern comfort foods to soups, salads, sandwiches and everything in between. It started with the purchase of a 1983 Chevy Step Van in 2011, and in September 2012, Graze Food Truck hit the streets. They seek to use fresh, locally grown ingredients whenever possible and can cater your next private event, corporate party or wedding.

Fuel Food Truck is another favorite; they even catered our Safety Luncheon last fall. The food, made from scratch, is to die for. Only organic ingredients are used, including antibiotic-free, humanely raised, grass/vegetarian fed meat and poultry. Not only can this truck be at your next event, but it can also be seen driving around Memphis, serving spots all over our great city. Mahaffey’s two favorite dishes are the Grilled Cheese and Bison Tacos.
