Tuesday Trends: 5 Ways to Use Social Media at Your Wedding

If social media had a mission statement, it would be to bring people together while simultaneously keeping them informed. Here are 3 ways to do just that for the bride and groom’s big day!

1. Planning: A decade ago, wedding planning meant stacks of magazines and a three-ring binder for most brides. Today, everything needed to plan a wedding can be found on a smart phone. Pinterest is a great resource for getting ideas on everything from hair styles to bridesmaids dresses to event decor. And for the brides that don’t want every detail of their wedding shared before the big day, Pinterest has secret boards. If a bride needs more than inspiration to plan a wedding, Google has a wedding budget template and apps like lover.ly and The Knot can help tame the chaos before the nuptials.

2. Day-Of Coordination: Utilize apps like Wedding Party, Wedding Planner for iPad, and appy couple for a more seamless day of experience. These apps have can coordinate vendor information, send out email reminders to the wedding party when they need to be somewhere, keep a shot list for photographers and so much more.

3. Crowdsource Your Photographs: Wedding photographs are the piece of the ceremony and reception that will last forever and many couples don’t want to miss out on the moments between their guests. Crowdsourcing wedding photos is a great way to involve their guests and have photographs they would otherwise not have. A popular trend now is creating a wedding hashtag and having guests share their photos on twitter and Instagram using the hashtag. Apps like WedPics, Snapable, and Eversnap allow the couple, the wedding party, and all the guests to share photos and videos during the ceremony and reception and order prints and albums to help remember the day.

Did You Know: Project Green Fork Edition

Mahaffey is excited to partner with Fuel Cafe this weekend for a wedding at the Metal Museum!
ImageFuel Cafe, located in Midtown, is one of many restaurants in Memphis that are Project Green Fork certified. Founded in 2008, Project Green Fork was established to reduce environmental impact, with an emphasis on supporting homegrown restaurants.

Here are the six things that it takes to be Project Green Fork certified:

1. All disposable products must be compostable, biodegradable, recyclable, or made from recycled content.

2. All items that can be recycled must be recycled (as recognized by Project Green Fork).

3. With the help of Project Green Fork, restaurants will establish a composting system for pre-consumed fruit, vegetable, coffee grounds, eggshell scraps, and other compostable waste.

4. The use of toxic cleaners is discouraged and, whenever possible, must be replaced with plant-based and/or biodegradable cleaners.

5. Establishments must complete an energy audit and attempt to reduce water and energy waste.

6. All kitchens, front of houses, and outside areas should be clean and free of debris.

Check this out to find any Project Green Fork restaurants in your neighborhood.

And to check out Fuel Cafe’s delicious menu, go see them on Madison Avenue or track down their food truck for Fuel on the go! Follow them on twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to keep up with where they are in Memphis.

Did You Know Series: Event Tent App

If you are planning a party, wedding, corporate or any type of event that needs TENTS, download the “Event Tent” app, by  IFAI’s Tent Rental Division, that will begin the tent planning process for you! Planning an event is not the easiest thing to do. Especially when you have a checklist of (what seems like) about a million things you have to take care of before the big event takes place.

This app is super easy to use and is similar to Mahaffey’s tent size tool. The app is free to download and once opened, you enter the date of your event, the event type, the location and ground surface. On the second page, you put in your number of guests, seating arrangements and accessories (such as tables and entertainment). Simply hit Calculate after entering your information, and the final page displays your estimated area needed, the best tent size and room to spare. Simple as that! If you need further help, simply enter your information and within MINUTES you will be contacted by the nearest tent rental company, such as Mahaffey, and you can order your tent!

Have fun, party planners!

Wedding Trends 2012

In our last blog post we shared 2012 color trends with you, so today we want to share four general wedding trends that come to us from St. Louis Weddings on what you can expect to see brides engaging in this year.

Going Green

Brides will save money and the environment as they incorporate environmentally friendly touches to their wedding. More brides will be choosing locally grown flowers, re-purposing old items for centerpieces ,and purchasing recycled invitations.

Vintage Themes

Many brides will choose vintage and rustic decor this year. Brides will be achieving this feeling by decorating with old antiques, refurbished thrift store items, and old wedding photos from both families on the tables at the reception.

Think Outside the Church

Many couples will choose to be married at an outdoor location, such as a beautiful garden or a gorgeous backyard, as opposed to a church.

Having an outdoor ceremony is just one way to make your wedding memorable.

Do-It-Yourself

Do-it-yourself projects have been very popular among brides for the past few years, and this year is no exception. More and more brides are turning to DIY projects like printing their own invitations, writing their own place cards and creating centerpieces themselves. If you have the time and the creativity, you can add a lot of home made touches to your special day.

St. Louis Weddings recommends taking it one DIY project at a time to avoid overload.

Are you a 2012 bride? Will your guests see any of these trends at your wedding? Let us know which ones!

International Museum Day

It’s International Museum Day! To celebrate, we’re featuring weddings we took part in at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, which is offering FREE admission all day in honor of the holiday, and at the National Ornamental and Metal Museum.

This was a beautiful summer wedding at the Dixon in mid-June 2010 designed by our friends over at Social Butterflies.

The tent was a 33′ wide frame with a clear top, which did a fabulous job keeping out some of the summer heat in Memphis (that all brides like to avoid) with the help of fans and a nice breeze. Mahaffey also provided the gorgeous gold chandeliers, mahogany chiavari chairs, IC dance floor and the stage for the band to play for the bride and groom’s first dances as a married couple.

The orange and brown accents, great colors for the 2011 wedding season, were brought out in the solid poly linens mixed with bengaline specialty linens.

Mahaffey also provided the cool lounge area on the dance floor, complete with leather furniture, pillows and a swanky carpet.

The National Ornamental Metal Museum is a such a unique and beautiful venue for any wedding or event.  We took part in a wedding there last spring, also designed by Social Butterflies.

We provided a 33′ by 82′ clear top tent with beautiful lighting for this outdoor wedding reception.

Happy International Museum Day and Wedding Wednesday to all the planning brides out there!

xoxo,

Raquel

Anna and Josh’s Wedding in Corinth!

This seemed to be an appropriate post for today, seeing as how we’ve had our fair share of messy weather lately (understatement of the century, I know).

Despite the weather not cooperating, Anna and Josh had a wonderful wedding ceremony and reception in historic Corinth, Mississippi earlier this month. Mahaffey‘s clear tent held up perfectly and kept guests dry and warm, all while providing a gorgeous view of the rainy, yet beautifully lit sky.

Check out photos of this memorable evening, along with some of our fabulous party rentals! 🙂 All photos courtesy of Studio J.
