Tuesday Trends: 5 Ways to Use Social Media at Your Wedding

If social media had a mission statement, it would be to bring people together while simultaneously keeping them informed. Here are 3 ways to do just that for the bride and groom’s big day!

1. Planning: A decade ago, wedding planning meant stacks of magazines and a three-ring binder for most brides. Today, everything needed to plan a wedding can be found on a smart phone. Pinterest is a great resource for getting ideas on everything from hair styles to bridesmaids dresses to event decor. And for the brides that don’t want every detail of their wedding shared before the big day, Pinterest has secret boards. If a bride needs more than inspiration to plan a wedding, Google has a wedding budget template and apps like lover.ly and The Knot can help tame the chaos before the nuptials.

2. Day-Of Coordination: Utilize apps like Wedding Party, Wedding Planner for iPad, and appy couple for a more seamless day of experience. These apps have can coordinate vendor information, send out email reminders to the wedding party when they need to be somewhere, keep a shot list for photographers and so much more.

3. Crowdsource Your Photographs: Wedding photographs are the piece of the ceremony and reception that will last forever and many couples don’t want to miss out on the moments between their guests. Crowdsourcing wedding photos is a great way to involve their guests and have photographs they would otherwise not have. A popular trend now is creating a wedding hashtag and having guests share their photos on twitter and Instagram using the hashtag. Apps like WedPics, Snapable, and Eversnap allow the couple, the wedding party, and all the guests to share photos and videos during the ceremony and reception and order prints and albums to help remember the day.

Tuesday Trend: Eclectic Themes

The eclectic theme has become a huge trend this year and like many, we’re in love! The key in creating this ultra-chic look is to mix and match opposite elements. There are MANY ways to achieve this style, and Mahaffey is here to help!

At your next event, try mixing a modern, upscale location with shabby-chic decorations, or vice versa, for an easy way in achieving this look. Another approach is to only focus on the decorative pieces. Here are some ideas that we love: adding chandeliers to a barn-like venue, pairing vintage tableware to patterned linens, and combining shaded and non-shaded glassware. Tying these pieces to one another will create the perfect eclectic atmosphere!

Want to create this trend for your next event? Mahaffey Tent & Party Rentals has a variety of items ranging from lighting, flatware, linens, tables and more to help create the ultimate eclectic theme! Get Married at Historic Heartwood Hall!

Main House Heartwood HallI had the wonderful pleasure of visiting Heartwood Hall this past weekend and was given the formal tour by its fabulous owner, Denise. It’s easy to see why she’s been so successful in her past ventures, and her background in interior design definitely shines through.

Every room is so warmly decorated, the grounds are exquisite and so well-kept, and the attention to detail is simply breathtaking. Walking through the rustic gates of the extraordinary Four Seasons Gardens, I immediately imagined an enchanting summer wedding taking place. It was such a treat to hear the stories of how Heartwood Hall came to be. So I thought I’d share this beautiful site’s rich history with you…

Built in 1840, Heartwood Hall was originally part of a 5,000 acre plantation estate. It now sits on 25 beautifully wooded acres. The Heartwood Hall residence as well as the grounds are both on the National Historic Register, listed as “The Miller House.” The grounds are on the register due to the fact that during the Civil War, the Union soldiers camped on the front lawn and occupied Heartwood Hall as a hospital.

Originally built by the Miller family, Heartwood Hall and a similar estate were constructed as wedding gifts for Mr. Miller’s two daughters. Luckily, the Union soldiers chose to preserve Heartwood Hall as their residence during the war because Mr. Miller’s other estate was burned to the ground.

John and Denise Suthoff bought the house eight years ago. Since that time, they have added on an additional 3500 sq ft to the residence for a total of 7,000 sq ft. During the renovation, the Suthoff’s added a gourmet kitchen, courtyard, and pool area. They joined the servant houses scattered among the property to create an 1800 sq ft Guest House updated with modern amenities located at the back of the property.

In addition to the Guest House and Courtyard, John and Denise added a gorgeous garden. They went through great pains to maintain the original character and integrity of the property during the renovation by using reclaimed wood, bricks and glass. The flooring used in the addition of the Main House was salvaged from a New Orleans cotton gin built in the 1800’s. The Barn which is currently undergoing renovation (scheduled to be completed April 1, 2011) is also being constructed from reclaimed wood derived from trees located on the property.

In addition to its Southern historic charm, Heartwood Hall offers an unparalleled setting for wedding ceremonies, receptions, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, as well as corporate events. Explore all the options Heartwood Hall has to offer by choosing the perfect backdrop for your event…the Main House, Four Seasons Garden, Cabin and Lake, Barn, and Guest House.

Experience a venue like none other, with its inspiring views and historic Southern charm! Be on the lookout for a certain summer wedding feature at the beautiful Heartwood Hall! 🙂
