DIY Weddings

When I started planning my October 2010 wedding, I wanted to do as many do-it-yourself projects as I could handle, as well as ask my talented friends for some help. I’m always looking to save a pretty penny, so I felt like this would help give our wedding festivities a personal touch that reflected my husband, myself and our family and friends who were celebrating our marriage with us.

Wish Tags
Guest books are becoming a thing of the past, and brides are beginning to look for creative ways for their guests to leave their mark on the wedding. When I thought of how I’d like my guests to leave their mark on my wedding, I came up with wedding wish tags. The idea being that the guests could leave their wishes for the couple in their married life on the tags.

I found mine on Etsy.

Invitations
Stationery and invitations for weddings, rehearsal dinners and showers can become costly. However, this cost can be greatly lowered when brides (and grooms) print their own invitations. For our wedding, I printed my own wedding invitations, response cards, mailing labels, rehearsal dinner invitations and wedding programs.

Our Rehearsal Dinner Invitations

DIY invitations can be found easily at places like Target and Michaels and all you need is a computer, printer and a full ink cartridge.

Wedding Cake Substitutions

Since we were having an afternoon wedding, we thought a wedding cake would be too formal for our ceremony and reception. Instead, we decided to use cupcakes that were made by a dear friend and incorporated our wedding colors, which were red, tangerine and chocolate brown. However, to keep with tradition, we also had her make a tier of wedding cake for us to take a bite of and save for the one year anniversary.

Taking on do-it-yourself projects in the midst of wedding planning can seem overwhelming at times and that’s one reason to play on your strengths as a bride. Don’t be afraid to ask your bridesmaids, family, friends and most importantly, your groom, for help!
Happy planning to all the brides out there! 🙂

xoxo,

Raquel
