1. Planning: A decade ago, wedding planning meant stacks of magazines and a three-ring binder for most brides. Today, everything needed to plan a wedding can be found on a smart phone. Pinterest is a great resource for getting ideas on everything from hair styles to bridesmaids dresses to event decor. And for the brides that don’t want every detail of their wedding shared before the big day, Pinterest has secret boards. If a bride needs more than inspiration to plan a wedding, Google has a wedding budget template and apps like lover.ly and The Knot can help tame the chaos before the nuptials. 

2. Day-Of Coordination: Utilize apps like Wedding Party, Wedding Planner for iPad, and appy couple for a more seamless day of experience. These apps have can coordinate vendor information, send out email reminders to the wedding party when they need to be somewhere, keep a shot list for photographers and so much more.

3. Crowdsource Your Photographs: Wedding photographs are the piece of the ceremony and reception that will last forever and many couples don’t want to miss out on the moments between their guests. Crowdsourcing wedding photos is a great way to involve their guests and have photographs they would otherwise not have. A popular trend now is creating a wedding hashtag and having guests share their photos on twitter and Instagram using the hashtag. Apps like WedPics, Snapable, and Eversnap allow the couple, the wedding party, and all the guests to share photos and videos during the ceremony and reception and order prints and albums to help remember the day.

In an effort to raise awareness for Special Olympics, hundreds of brave individuals will willingly plunge themselves into the icy Wolf River at the 15^th Annual Polar Bear Plunge! From tables, linens, chairs, tableware and decor to dance floors, lighting, stages, tents and more. Whether Mid-Southerners are planning an elegant wedding, corporate event, festival, sporting event or even a small soiree, Mahaffey’s got you covered. We have a large inventory of rental equipment readily available.

The Customer Service Representative will help customers determine which items best serve their needs, generate a contract for the rental and coordinate the order with our production staff. Much of the customer interaction is over the telephone, but excellent writing and communication skills and a professional appearance are essential.

The ideal candidate must enjoy working with people, have an outgoing personality and exhibit a good sense of humor. Candidate must have at least five years experience in sales/customer service and demonstrate experience with event planning. Computer literacy is a must (Microsoft Office Applications: Word, Excel and the Internet). Experience with ACT! or CAD would be a plus. The ideal candidate must also be active within the local community and understand the culture, people, arts and institutions that make Memphis and the Mid-South a great place to live and work.

Did You Know: Stingrays at the Memphis Zoo

The Memphis Zoo, home to more than 3,500 animals, continues to renovate and expand, surprising and amazing all who visit. After researching the Zoo’s history, we learned that more than $77 million, since the early 1990s, has been put into transforming the 70 acres of exhibits into nothing short of an incredibly unique experience. With the new year approaching, you better believe the Memphis Zoo has something up its sleeve, and Mahaffey is absolutely thrilled to be a part of it!

We are excited to share the news that beginning in March 2013, the Zoo will be home to an interactive stingray exhibit through a partnership with Living Exhibits, Inc. Not only will observers be able to view several species of stingrays and sharks but they will have the opportunity to safely touch and pet these creatures. The salt water pool, holding 17,000 gallons of water, is specifically engineered as a habitat for the stingrays and sharks to thrive and a hands-on teaching platform for Zoo visitors. And of course, enclosing this new attraction is a structure provided by yours truly! We love helping the Memphis Zoo bring such a neat, new feature to this city. The Stingray Bay will be available for companies, organizations and other groups to rent out for private events and will stay open through October 30th, 2013.

Admission into the Stingray Bay will be $3 for Zoo members and $4 for nonmembers. We hope to see you there!

ArtsMemphis Upcoming Events

Don’t miss ArtsMemphis‘ ARTAFACTOR event TOMORROW NIGHT that will culminate the 2012 ARTAFACTOR series. This party will dive into Memphis’ culture and raise funds to support local art organizations and education.

This year’s theme is “Go With the Flow.” It begins at 7 pm and will be hosted at the Beale Street Landing in Downtown Memphis. This is one of the first events held in the Landing since its completion! There will be live entertainment, including performances by Playhouse on the Square, Ballet Memphis and STAX Music Academy, original art pieces, live auctions and barbecue.

Following ARTAFACTOR, on Saturday, November 10th, will be Conservation Through Art 2012, presented by Ducks Unlimited and ArtsMemphis, celebrating the relationship between wildlife conservation, natural beauty and art. Dinner will be hosted at the national headquarters of Ducks Unlimited and begin at 7 pm. Just like ARTAFACTOR, this event will have some great auction items.

Macy’s Zoo Brew

Tickets are on sale now for the Macy’s Zoo Brew! Join Mahaffey tomorrow, August 31st, at the Memphis Zoo to celebrate the Labor Day weekend. This will be the last Zoo Brew of the year, so you don’t want to miss out! This one-of-a-kind beer-tasting event features beers from around the world, fantastic food and live music.

Tickets are $35 for members and $40 for nonmembers, with an opportunity to purchase VIP tickets at $55 for members and $60 for nonmembers. VIP tickets allow you access to the VIP Teton Trek Lounge.
